Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Update nov. 2024: now 1 year and 7 months old. 55 pounds. Skipper....previously John B has been returned to HSWC for his second tour. This poor fella is so confused as to why he is here and so are we. He has been living with his adopters for quite some time but it seems as he has become more than they can handle through no fault of his own. Sometimes sibling relationships can be complicated. No worries, we will set a new course for Skipper. This bright young fella has so much to offer the right family. Come and spend some time with him. He is looking for a new love to devote himself to. A new family to bond with.
📖In his time with his adopters: He has been around an infant and another dog. He does well at the dog park.
Skipper could use a refresher course in some basic training to get him back on a good path. He will need frequently outings and short walks to get outside and go potty. He is looking for a strong leader and a patient home that can meet his needs. Please help us give this special boy a second chance at a loving home.
I am a 8 week old, Male, Pit Mix.
John B is finally ready for adoption. He came in as a pup that was too young for adoption, so he went to one of our wonderful fosters homes until he was ready. The foster has nothing bad to say about him. He has been a quick learn on good potty practices, he is learning some tricks, and he loves all the other animals and people in the house. If you have been looking for a puppy, then look no further. This dapper little guy will melt your heart. You will need to schedule an appointment to see him as he will remain with the foster until he is adopted.

More about this shelter
The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
