Applications can be found on our website under the fees tab and submitted via email, fax, or in person.

Meet the Pet

A kennel assistant will take you to meet your new furry friend. All dogs require meetings with dogs already in your home.

While you are meeting the animals, the front desk staff will be looking through your application. They may need additional information after

Once you application is approved, all that is left is to pay the adoption fee! Adoption fees for all species can be found on our website.

Take the Pet Home

All animals are ready to go home the day you visit with them. We hope you love your new best friend as much as we do!

Policy/Warranties
1. Any person/family interested in interacting with an animal MUST have a completed adoption application prior to being able to touch an animal.
2. All members of the household MUST interact with the animal and be in agreement with the adoption of a particular animal.
3. Any person interacting with an animal understands that interaction with an animal carries a risk and they agree to accept all risks associated with interacting with an animal that can include but not limited to scratches, bites, being knocked down or possible contact with urine or feces.
4. Anyone agreeing to view an animal accepts all risks associated with the interaction and does not hold Kane County Animal Control or anyone associated with Kane County liable for any damages or injuries that occur.
5. All animals adopted from KCAC are sterilized, microchipped, dewormed and vaccinated for rabies and distemper.
6. All animals on the adoption floor have met KCAC’s basic standard for adoption. KCAC does not guarantee the behavior or health of any animal adopted from its facility once an animal has been adopted.
A. KCAC completes a basic animal behavior exam with all animals at our facility using a modified SAFER exam.
B. All animals are medically examined by the County Veterinarian for all health related matters.
7. All adopters MUST go their chosen veterinarian within 10 days of the adoption to ensure the health and behavior of an adopted animal.

Refunds/Returns
No matter how careful the Shelter is in attempting to match the right pet with the right family, there will be occasions where animals will be returned to the Shelter. Any animal(s) adopted from KCAC may be returned at any time for the life of the pet.
o If the animal is returned within ten (10) business days of adoption the owner will be refunded the entire adoption fee.
o If the animal is returned after ten (10) business days then there will be no refund of the original adoption fee.
o Adopted animals that have had a transfer of ownership will no longer constitute as an adoption return but may be returned as an owner surrender.
o Adoption returns will be given priority for returning to this facility over owner surrendered animals. KCAC will work with the family surrendering the animals to find the quickest solution for returning.
o Adopters will not be approved to adopt from this facility again if they have every surrendered or returned an animal to Kane County Animal Control.
