Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Tigger is an incredibly social and curious cat who has charmed nearly everyone he meets. Raised in an apartment with hallway access and regular balcony time, he quickly became a neighborhood favorite, happily visiting with anyone who welcomed his friendly presence. While some neighbors cherished his friendly antics, not everyone appreciated his adventurous spirit, which eventually led him to the shelter. Tigger adores playing with wand toys and exploring anything within reach, but his true favorites are things that aren't toys at all, like bags, purses, or anything that could possibly contain a treat. Highly independent but affectionate on his terms, Tigger is known for his love of lap time, especially if there's a cozy blanket. He would often curl up on his owner's lap and did wonderfully with visiting grandchildren, enjoying their gentle play and pets.
This lovable guy has boundless curiosity and a clever streak, even learning to open doors and knock over barriers to explore further. A fearless explorer (unless there's a thunderstorm or raised voices), Tigger needs a cat-proofed home with safe spaces to indulge his high-energy personality, like a balcony, catio, stroller, backpack, harness walk, or another form of safe outdoor access. Though he's an indoor cat at heart, he thrives with a bit of fresh air and the chance to watch the world. Tigger does well with calm pets but is choosy about his playmates-he's fine with an energetic puppy friend but only on his own terms. His new family should prepare for his curious nature and unique preferences; he loves his cat tree and spray catnip but avoids cardboard scratchers and fresh catnip leaves. Tigger will thrive in a home that appreciates his quirky, spirited personality and can give him the freedom and attention he loves.

More about this shelter
The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.
To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.
There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.
We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
