My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All the best qualities in a petite package!

Meet Jewel! Jewel is in a foster home in Spokane, WA and can be transported to your area (see information below in the “Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue” section).

Lovely mama Jewel is a small to medium size (currently about 22 lbs.), labrador retriever mix with black fur and white markings on her chest. She has warm, friendly, chocolate brown eyes and medium length fur. Jewel and her four pups form the Nightmare Before Christmas litter, and they traveled from the Del Rio Animal Shelter in Texas to find new homes in the PNW area. We are taking applications for Jewel now, and she will be able to go home with an adopter once her pups are weaned, and she has been spayed in late December.

Sweet Jewel is a loving mama who has quickly settled into both her new role and her new foster home. Kind and patient with her pups, she also takes some time for herself, making friends and playmates out of the resident dogs and staking out a preferred spot on the couch for snuggles with people. This gentle, friendly girl has a lot of love to share. Jewel just adores having humans of all ages in her life; she is so happy to see you, even if you only walked out of the room briefly and returned. Jewel will trail behind you, curious to see what you are doing, and she is also content to have some me-time and relax on her own. Playing is a favorite past time for her, with indoors or outdoors both being great options. Jewel has not been cat tested yet, but we will share the results when she has.

When Jewel isn’t caring for her puppies, she is honing her skills. Jewel picked up potty training in three days in her foster home, and she quickly learned the rules of her new residence (like no dogs in the kitchen, please). An easygoing girl, Jewel enjoys walks (what new mom wouldn’t appreciate a break from four babies?) and eagerly exploring the world around her. She shares a pen with her puppies while she is nursing, and she will begin crate training once they are weaned. A smart girl, Jewel already knows her basic commands.

Jewel’s ideal home? Maybe yours! This relaxed, playful, loving, and smart girl doesn’t require anything fancy. She’d be perfectly content with loving people, a comfy couch to nap on (and someone to snuggle with), people and/or dog companions to play with, access to go outside and run, and toys. If you are looking for all the best qualities you can find in a dog in a petite package, Jewel might be the one for you!

What is Path of Hope Rescue’s Adoption Process?

Our adoption process takes on average 7-10 days.

  1. Begin by completing the online application. EVERY application receives an email response from us (check your spam folder!).

  2. Your personal Matchmaker will contact you, help you find your perfect pup match, and guide you through the process.

  3. Meet your potential pup at the home of the foster family (the process may differ slightly for long distance adopters).

  4. Bring your potential pup home for a no commitment In Home Trial. In Home Trials are a minimum of (2) nights for a puppy and one week for an adult. Your Matchmaker will check in with you during this time.

  5. Sign the adoption paperwork and adopt your new family member!

Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue

  • Our adoption process sets us apart. We specialize in learning about you and your family to find just the right fit for you. Our Matchmakers are not only good at what they do; they will also guide you through the entire process.

  • Our Minimum Adoption Donation is $550 for puppies under a year and $450 for dogs a year and older. We are a WA state registered non-profit and rely heavily on adoption donations to cover the expenses associated with saving lives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.

  • Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250. Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.

About Path of Hope Rescue

  • At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes.

  • We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment.

  • Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.

  • Please visit https://www.pathofhoperescue.com/ for more information about our organization and the adoption process.
