My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I'm Sunshine. I was originally a lone feral cat, disrupting other neighborhood pets by stealing their food, jumping fences, and setting off security cameras. I was trapped, and spend about a year getting used to humans. My name was meant to be ironic, as I'm almost all black. And of course, I would always hiss at the human that fed me. But after about a year, something funny happened. I started to like my human caretaker. I would hop in her lap, and savor pets for 30 minutes at a time. She can even pick me up now, but I'm not sure if I really like it. I play with a ball pyramid, and furry mice toys. I watch dangly toys, but sometimes they scare me - so I don't chase them. You will need to be a very special person to adopt me. I will be VERY shy at first, and I will take time to come around to liking you. But when I do, I will be your best buddy. I do love my fellow foster, Holly. We hang out together in cat beds meant for one, and we happily groom each other. She is way more outgoing than I am, so it would be marvelous if we were adopted together - but not required. If you will work with me, I will be a very devoted companion.

Who We Are
2 Paws Up started in early 2007 as a small group helping to transport animals from the Harnett County Shelter to people who wanted to adopt but could not make it there themselves.

Since then, we have expanded our services to a full adoption agency. We vaccinate animals upon their arrival and get them any necessary health care, including spaying and neutering.

Any animal in our group will be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption. We cannot help the problem if animals keep mating!

We have recently been approved as a North Carolina Non-profit organization, and are waiting for our 501(c)3 paperwork to be finalized! Hooray!
Why We Are Different
As a future pet owner, you are probably looking for an adoption agency that is right for you. Each rescue group should have something that appeals to different groups of people, so everyone can find their future pet. This is why we think we are different:
• Our adoption fees vary between animals. We do not charge you for something we didn’t do. For example, if a dog came into the shelter already neutered, the cost of that neuter will NOT be included in his adoption fee.
• Our main focus is shelter pets. Most rescue groups focus on stray animals before they end up in the shelter. We try to help as many animals that are in imminent danger of being put down. We do accept animals from elsewhere as well, but high-kill shelters are our main focus.
