My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arthur Tatum Jr.
Yorkshire Terrier
5 months, Male, Extra Small

WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Arthur Tatum Jr.

BREED: Yorkshire Terrier

DOB: 6/1/24

Medical: Arthur has a slight vision impairment, but this does not stop him from living his best life. He can go for walks, play, and learn basic commands like other dogs. He would do best in a home with kids 12+ to be mindful of his training and growth.

Home Recommendation: Arthur Tatum Jr. a sweet puppy who would love to find a family that can help let us personality shine through! He is incredibly trainable, affectionate, and irresistibly cute. He would do best in a home with a family that is home more often than not, for training purposes and based on his affectionate personality. He would also do well with another dog, because this helps him learn his way around being that he is blind.

Personality: Arthur Tatum Jr. is smart and loving, and does not let his blindness get in the way of having a fun puppy life. He is full of spunk and loves being the life of the party! He has zero fear, and is always up for any adventure. He enjoys playing with other dogs of all sizes and snuggling in your lap.

KIDS: Ages 12+ due to his training needs

DOGS: Yes! He does great with all dogs.

CATS: Yes

TRAINING: Does great with potty training, and would do well with more leash walking practice (another dog would also help with this to aid in guiding him). Crate trained, and eager to learn more.He tracks people and dogs well as his other senses are heightened, eats well, and and has been loving his carrier that his foster has transported him.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Arthur Tatum Jr. were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
