Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Layla!!
I am a very special girl named after my foster mom’s niece. I am 12 weeks, 5 lbs and an Aussie Chi mix. I am special girl because I suffered an injury causing me to be blind in one eye. My blue eye also has limited vision. The vet says my eye will need to be monitored but is not causing me any pain. But don’t worry, this hasn’t slowed me down!!
I came up from Texas with my sister who did a great job looking out for me, but she’s just a puppy herself and needs someone to protect her. I have a fierce personality and am brave beyond my years. My favorite things are wrestling my Fosters golden, running around the neighborhood on my walks and playing with the other foster puppies. I get along with everyone and love to start the wrestling matches. I also like to sneak off to curl up next to the golden.
Because of my vision, I like to taste things to explore them, my forever family will need to understand how to work with me to keep me safe and build even more confidence. I very much rely on other dogs, verbal commands and touch to reassure me that people won’t hurt me. I love kids too but they need to understand how I explore with my mouth. I am learning no bite, kisses, off, sit, touch, and walk nice.
Like my sister, I am a true athlete! She’s got a few pounds on me but I am faster, more agile and can jump off anything! I also love to dig! My foster mom has to keep switching up my gates because I like to escape and run through the house. I also crawl underneath couches. My family will need to stay on their toes!!
I would do best with a fenced yard as well due to my limited vision so I can run without worry!
While balls and playing are great, the best thing is when my foster mom holds me. I love to cuddle and snuggle and get belly rubs. She tells me up so I don’t get scared anymore! I even let kids hold me!
I am learning potty training and better than my sister (don’t tell her)! And sleep with her at night in our playpen.
My dream family has other dogs, fenced yard and is active!! Older kids might be better due to my challenges however I did great with toddlers when I met them.
Are you my perfect family?

More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
