If you're looking for a little dog with a big personality, Chainsaw just might be the one for you! This one-year-old Chihuahua is full of spunk, affection, and energy-though he definitely needs a special kind of owner to bring out his best. With some patience and the right guidance, Chainsaw will make an incredibly loyal, loving companion who forms deep bonds with his person.
Chainsaw is a small dog with a huge heart, but he's not your typical puppy. He's a little wary of new people and situations, so he can be shy or even reactive at first, especially when he's on a leash. Due to his cautious nature, we recommend that Chainsaw's new owner have some prior dog experience and an understanding of Chihuahua behavior. He's also a flight risk, so he'll need to be kept on a leash or in a secure area until he feels comfortable in new environments.
Despite his initial hesitations, once Chainsaw bonds with you, he's incredibly affectionate and loyal. He'll be your shadow, always eager to be near you, and loves nothing more than curling up with his person after a busy day of play. He is house-trained and crate-trained, making him a breeze to care for at home, and his energy level is high-he's still young and loves to play and explore!
Chainsaw would thrive in a home where he can get the individual attention he craves and where his people understand his cautious nature. He's good with other dogs and cats, but because of his sensitivity to new people and situations, Chainsaw is not suited for a home with children. Chainsaw becomes very attached to his primary caretaker and can be wary of others who live in the home. Chainsaw can be reactive when he feels unsure, but with the right owner, he will gradually become more comfortable and confident. His ideal home will be one where he gets daily walks (on-leash, of course) and regular playtime to keep his energy in check.
Though Chainsaw still has a tendency to chew on hands (he thinks they're toys!), with continued training, he's sure to grow out of this habit. He's smart and learns quickly when given positive reinforcement. Chainsaw needs an experienced owner who can provide structure, patience, and love as he continues to grow into the best version of himself.
Chainsaw is looking for a forever family who will embrace his quirks, respect his boundaries, and shower him with affection. In return, he will be the most loyal, loving little companion you've ever had. If you're ready to take on this spirited little guy and help him become the confident dog he's meant to be, Chainsaw may just be for you!

More about this shelter
The Humane Society of North Central Florida was created in 2018 when the leadership of the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue decided to permanently join forces. By becoming the Humane Society of North Central Florida, our organizations were able to effectively streamline services for pets and pet owners, eliminate any duplication of services, maximize our community’s resources, and improve the life-saving abilities of the entire region.
Our founding organizations have been dedicated to serving pets in Alachua County for more than 40 years. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is an independent, local 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we do not receive funding from federal agencies, nor are we affiliated with any other state or national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
