My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on 10/5/2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:

Meet Buddy, a 1.5-year-old male dog who's full of personality and ready for a new adventure with a loving family. Buddy is an energetic and curious dog with a mix of excitement and caution when meeting new people and situations. He can be a little reserved at first, especially around unfamiliar environments or other dogs, but with a little patience and understanding, Buddy's true affectionate nature shines through.

Buddy is alert and observant. He often reacts to the sounds of nearby dogs with barking, but he's quickly calmed by treats and attention. Buddy has a keen interest in his surroundings and engages with toys like when provided. He really enjoys his kong! On leash, he walks with a bit of energy, often pulling gently toward new spaces like the play yard, where his excitement shows through in playful jumps and tail wags.

Buddy's ideal home would be one where he can enjoy both active playtime and quiet moments with his human family. He thrives on routine and positive reinforcement, especially when treats are involved! He's learning to settle down after some activity, and he enjoys sitting at your feet or near you, offering his presence and affection. He's also a curious observer of other dogs and people, showing interest but needing some time to adjust before fully engaging.

Buddy has shown that he enjoys being around his human caregivers and leans into petting, especially along his back, neck, and shoulders. He may need some time to get used to more direct handling, but when he's comfortable, he's affectionate and seeks out attention. Buddy would do best with a dog owner who can offer gentle guidance as he navigates new experiences. He's also social with people, though he may take time to adjust to other dogs and will benefit from further socialization in a calm and supportive environment.

If you're looking for a sweet, active dog who will reward you with affection and loyalty once he feels safe, Buddy might just be your perfect match!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
