My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I'm Canelo. Despite my senior status, I'm as spry as a pup. I'm a bit shy, but once I warm up to you, we'll be the best of friends. I'm quite the smarty too, I love a good puzzle toy or a challenging game of hide-and-seek. Life in the shelter is okay, but I dream of a cozy home where I can show off my smarts and share my love. I promise, if you give me a chance, I'll be the loyal companion you've been searching for.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1971 as the Animal Aid Society of Englewood, Suncoast Humane Society began with a few cages where people left stray animals to be cared for. Over the years, our service area has grown to include over 400 square miles, covering three counties: Sarasota, Charlotte and portions of Lee.
Suncoast Humane Society provides a safe refuge for thousands of lost, abandoned and abused animals from our service area each year. We are committed to our open-door policy of never turning any animal away, regardless of health, temperament, breed or circumstances.
