My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Petey is a handsome 1.5 year old mixed breed male. He has a beautiful brindle
and white coat and a sweet but very shy personality. He weighs about 75 pounds.

Let us introduce you to Pete. Pete was saved by a kind person in Texas who knew he was in a terrible situation. Because of bad humans in his past, Pete is learning that people can be kind and loving. Pete does not have a mean bone in his body, he is incredibly gentle and sweet.

Pete has been in his foster home since his freedom ride to Wisconsin on November 1st. What we have learned about Pete aka Sweety Petey is that he wants to be loved so bad. He loves to cuddle on the couch and enjoys getting pets and kisses. He loves the comfort of having another dog or dogs around to show him the ropes, so his new family should have a current resident dog to help show him the ropes. Pete should be adopted by a person/family with a confident and friendly dog.

Pete is learning to trust humans and startles easily so his forever home should not have small children. A home with older kids or adults only would be ideal for this amazing boy.

When Pete figures out that he is safe and loved, he is the sweetest boy. He enjoys going on walks, getting copious amounts of head and belly scratches and jumping on the bed in the morning to snuggle and playfully nibble his foster moms face.

Pete is a very gentle, loving and loyal dog. He lays near his foster mom and is learning how to take treats from her hand. With consistent love and trust from humans, Pete will continue blossoming into an incredible dog.

The best thing about Sweety Petey is that he has a smiley face in his fur. Who doesn’t want a unique pup with his very own smiley face!

Pete is crate and potty trained and is a very quiet boy. A dedicated and experienced adopted will be rewarded when they have earned this awesome boys trust.

He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, dewormed and microchipped, and he comes with his medical records and interstate health certificate from a veterinary examination prior to leaving Texas, which certifies him to be in good condition.

He is being fostered in Franklin, WI.

His adoption fee is $400, which will be used to support the many animals in our care whose medical bills far surpass their much lower adoption fee.

Additional adoption info

Texas Rescue Riders follows the National No Kill Advocacy Guidelines, which recommend conversation based adoptions and education to find a good home. Ensuring a good home doesn’t require excessive arbitrary rules. Adopters have many options when it comes to finding their new best friend, and making the decision to adopt rather than go to a more convenient pet store or breeder shouldn’t be a difficult process.

Our pets are available to meet at their foster homes or local public meeting spots. Adoption events are posted on our Facebook page.

More about this rescue

Texas Rescue Riders appreciates our community's support in bringing dogs and cats from rural Texas into loving homes in the Midwest. Our amazing rescuers in Texas save these animals off the streets, where there is a severe pet overpopulation problem due to cultural differences and year round temperate climate. Texas Rescue Riders is an all inclusive rescue- we rescue first hand, nurse back to health, provide veterinary care, transport and adopt them out on our own. Our journey may begin in Texas, but it lives on in the north with our amazing adopters, fosters, volunteers and collaborating businesses. We are bound by our love of these precious souls who have joined their forever homes - and by those homeless dogs and cats whom we have not yet met - but who are waiting for their chance at happily ever after.
