Meet Dusty, a handsome GSD who is ready to live the pawsome life with YOU!
Dusty has no idea how he landed in MN, but luckily he was befriended by an amazing human and made his way into rescue. It’s clear he was loved in his former life and is desperate for that feeling again.
Dusty is a true snuggler and physical affection is his love language. When his foster human comes home, Dusty can’t wait to lay his head in her lap and would accept head and ear rubs for hours if given the chance. Rumor has it he even loves to spoon in bed if he’s invited in. When he’s not snuggling, he’s showing you his toy skills. There is no toy that he doesn’t like, and he especially loves a good squeaker or stuffed puzzle toy. Dusty is crate trained and can also be trusted for the most part to roam free. He also loves a long car ride and would happily accompany you to the great northwoods to romp in the forest, and would even stay by your side to experience the joy of living on acreage.
As one may assume, Dusty has many of the typical GSD traits such as loyal, wicked smart, curious, protective, the ever-so-common Velcro tendencies. That said, a breed-experienced handler would have no problems as he has an innate desire to please his humans.
Dusty came into rescue as Heartworm positive, which is a preventable disease transmitted by mosquitoes. He just finished treatment and is expected to test negative during his next test. Dusty recently started slow activity in late October, and has shown himself to be a great leash walker, sniffer extraordinaire, and has minimal prey drive. He walks past people nicely and can pass most dogs without big emotions as long as his small bubble is respected. He is still getting used to being in public after being in low activity during treatment. We are learning more and more about him each day!
Dusty is from a local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page.
If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
