My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stanley is a super handsome, sweet young fellow who LOVES attention and being brushed and gives head butts and purrs in return. About 4 years old, he was found stray in Buckingham Co and would be a good indoor or indoor/outdoor kitty in a safe setting. He is good with other cats and probably gentle dogs.Stanley is a sneezer and has been tested and treated.  If you' re ok with that, he will be the most rewarding cat you've ever owned He is fully vetted, most teeth removed,  and  available to meet at Lake Anna.

This pet is eligible for Meg's birthday special and the PETS FOR PATRIOTS adoption program.

The Adoption Process

  1. If you are ready to meet this feline please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10664/generic

  2. Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills.

  3. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.

  4. The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about their likes, dislikes, and little quirks.

  5. The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the feline home as your furry forever friend, their adoption fee is $125.

Should the match turn out less than perfect, or if you are unwilling or unable to care for an adopted animal, the Louisa Humane Society will take the animal back into our care.

We MUST receive a completed application for you to be considered to adopt or arrange a meeting with any pet in foster care. More about this rescue

The Louisa Humane Society (LHS) was founded in 2001 by concerned citizens who believe that healthy, adoptable animals who are orphaned should not be euthanized. Over the years a partnership has formed between Louisa County and LHS which has resulted in improvements to the County’s shelter facility and staffing upgrades at the shelter. The euthanization rate at the county shelter continues to decrease each year as dogs and cats are taken in to LHS foster homes and given time to find wonderful new families and forever homes.

The volunteers that make up the LHS believe that healthy, adoptable animals do not need to be euthanized if spay and neuter programs are supported, aggressive adoption programs are implemented, and a public educational campaign on responsible pet ownership is launched within the community.

We depend on volunteers and welcome anyone who loves animals and who is willing to give a little time to the effort. The Louisa Humane Society is incorporated and has non-profit 501(c)(3) status. We accept tax deductible gifts.
