My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Edgar a 3 year old sheepadoodle who weighs around 70 lbs. Edgar was saved from a commercial breeder where he, and many other dogs, were living in horrid conditions. Edgar was severely shut down and afraid of his own shadow. He never knew grass or a kind human touch. He had never been groomed and had to be carried into his foster home because he was too terrified to walk. Edgar is still very timid but he's come a long way in his foster home. He gets along with his canine foster brothers and sisters and is learning what is means to be a dog.  He will need a patient adopter; puppy mill experience a plus.

Edgar has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.  To apply to adopt, email rescueblackdogs@yahoo.com.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application, we do check Vet references and personal references. Once processed we then do a home visit and met and greet. We do have an adoption agreement that the adopter must sign at the time of the adoption. Our adoption fee is $300.

Go meet their pets

Meet and greets are scheduled once a potential adopter's adoption application has been approved. We do not have a physical location, all dogs are in foster homes. Another great way to meet our dogs is at events. All events are posted on our Facebook page so check back frequently!

More about this rescue

Black Dogs & Company Rescue (BD&CR) rescues dogs from high kill shelters in Maryland and surrounding states. We are an all breed rescue but specialize in black dogs. Please read about black dog syndrome. These dogs are the last to be adopted (if at all) so they have a hard time leaving the shelter. You may have also noticed the old english sheepdog in our logo. We are the regional contact for OES rescue. They are not the dog for everyone but once you own one (and walk the sheepie way) you will love the breed!
