My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Starfire was brought in by a community member on October 3, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Starfire, a fiery feline who believes in boundaries-and enforcing them with the precision of a seasoned diplomat! Starfire will let you know exactly when it's time for you to engage in the art of adoration. Spoiler: it's on his terms! Don't worry, though-once you've earned his trust, you'll be granted the rare privilege of petting him. Did you know that cats sometimes have petting limits? Starfire is here to educate the masses. When he's had enough, his signals might involve a quick swat, a little nibble, or the classic "tail flick of disapproval." So, always check with the boss before proceeding with more pets! Starfire is seeking a kingdom (preferably with a catio or safe outdoor space for his royal prowls) where he can rule without the disturbance of young children. He's not a fan of being picked up-he prefers to keep his paws firmly on the ground unless he's in the mood for an audience. An oral exam revealed severe dental disease and will require a dental in the near future. Please schedule an appointment with your vet for follow-up care. If you're ready to embrace the elegance and mystery of true feline magnificence, Starfire will grace you with his (occasional) affection. Don't forget to bring a large, hard-sided cat carrier for a safe journey home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
