Meet Melvin, a young, energetic furball with a heart full of love and a spirit that`s playful as a spring breeze. His infectious energy fills the room, often accompanied by his loud, joyful screeches that echo with the purest form of happiness and occasional nervousness. Living in an apartment is not for this vocal 15-pound youngster. Melvin is a cuddly companion who craves affection, often displaying his neediness by climbing onto your lap for a comforting cozy snuggle if he can stay still long enough to enjoy it. Despite his hyperactivity, Melvin is alert and sensitive, his whines often betraying his insecurities. He`s a loyal friend who just needs a little reassurance. Because he was abandoned at the shelter, we don`t know yet if he is house trained or how he will behave around other dogs or children. Melvin`s playful demeanor promises endless laughter, while his cuddly side ensures countless cozy evenings. Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
