Howdy, I’m Griffin!
I was born as one of six puppies in a local family in the town of La Salada. Sadly, we were neglected in our first stretch of life, and four of my siblings passed. A local animal advocate named Jimena spoke with my family and they agreed to give my surviving sibling and me up so we could receive the care we needed. We were rushed to the doggie hospital (the humans call it the “vet”) where I received some treatment for a mild skin issue and parasites. They also sterilized my mom to ensure she has no more litters that meet the same sad fate as my siblings.
My life has been a whirlwind but I’ve kept my happy-go-lucky attitude through it all! I fall in love with every hooman from the moment I meet them and I enjoy spending time hanging out with the other dogs at the rescue, especially the puppies and playful adults. I know I am officially a teenager but in my heart I will always stay a puppy! With the hoomans I am a very trusting, wear-my-heart-on-my-sleeve kind of guy, and I open up right from the start showering you with face licks and showing you my goofy side! I truly have unlimited love to give out!
The dogs I know are my absolute besties! I could romp around with them all day and would really love a play buddy in my future home as well. I will need a slow intro though, because new dogs frighten me a bit at first. The rescue has done an incredible job with guiding me through new introductions and they will give you all the info you need to! I am working a lot on meeting dogs on the streets as well and have made incredible progress. In the past I used to be quite worried and wasn't sure if the other dog wanted to fight or play, so I prepared myself with stiffening my body, raising the hair on my back and watching the other dog cautiously. I never bark and would't lunge, but might have pulled on the leash. The volunteers are really proud of me, because I learned to focus on them (with treats or the command "Touch") instead of the other dog. I am proud of myself, too
When I was about a year I had a surgery on my right hind leg, called an FHO. I forgave the hoomans right away, as they gave me extra love and treatos . I did lots of physiotherapy work and also received stem cell therapy in summer 2024. I don't understand a lot about all the vet-things, so please reach out to the Surfers for Strays team, if you have any questions! Even though I can limp a little sometimes, it doesn't hold me back whatsoever! I go on hourlong walks with the volunteers and can play all day long with my doggie friends. I am a really happy dog and nothing is going to ever make me lose my positive attitude!
According to my current foster momma, I am truly one of a kind. I am a big baby who wants to cuddle a lot and at the same time I am always down for action and adventures. I might not be the biggest fan of the car, but if you don't drive and turn like a maniac (like our manager - you don't know that from me ) I am up for it! As long as I can be part of the team! I am also great at relaxing and can be really good with down time while my foster momma is working for example. I can get super excited when you're coming home or when food is being prepped or when we go for a walk. I will jump with all four legs simultaneously in the air around my current hooman trying really hard not to bump into her, because you have to be respectful, right? I know how to Sit, Down and Wait, I walk well on leash (the first 2 minutes don't count, do they?), I am crate trained and actually love my crate and I can touch your hand on command with my snout.
My foster momma says I am the happiest, most life loving puppy she has ever met and that I am a really funny dog, that makes everyone laugh, because apparently I can be a bit clumsy. Okay, cut the "a bit". She sometimes calls me "Derp", not sure why, but I guess it's my second name. I love making everyone laugh, that's makes for a good mood, so I think I am doing a fantastic job!
With that being said, I can’t help but think about my next great adventure: traveling to the U.S. or Canada and emBARKing () on a lifelong journey with a family of my own! To my future family reading this - I love you already!
All my love,
Your Griffin
