Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I’m a young-at-heart 8-year-old German Shepherd mix who weighs 64 lbs. I have a soft, shiny, golden coat that matches my warm personality. I may be classified as a senior, but you’re only as old as you feel, right? Based on my favorite activities — long walks, hanging with a volunteer pal, and exploring the yards — you’d never know my true age! Plus, I’ve heard it isn’t polite to ask a lady her age 😉
The best part of my day is when a volunteer friend comes up to my kennel to take me out to get some fresh air. I have an extra pep in my step when I’m on walks - and I’m told that it is the best part of my volunteer pals’ day as well – being hands down – a volunteer AND staff favorite! I walk well on leash, and I have a calm demeanor. When we’re not on a leashed adventure, I love exploring the yards and stretching my legs. Nothing beats getting loved on by my volunteer pals and getting my head and back scratched! And of course, a yummy treat is the cherry on top!
I’m not too picky when it comes to toys, in fact I’m still deciding if I really like them but the good news is I can entertain myself with the sights and sniffs around me. I’ve met a few other shelter pups and was able to keep up and run the fence line with them just fine! I think I’d make a pawsome sister and if you already have a dog, my staff friends will properly introduce us to see if we are comfortable with one another.
I know winter is coming, but with me in your life you’d have sunshine year-round! If you’re looking for a companion to love you unconditionally, share your walks and cuddles with, and greet you with a warm welcome and my beaming smile every time I see you, I’m the right girl for you! I’ve got a good feeling about this, hope to meet you soon!

Please browse our adoptable animals. We make every effort to keep our listings updated.
Each of our animals has contact information in the description - either referencing the phone number of the foster volunteer who is fostering the animal or East County Animal Shelter contact information if a shelter animal.
If you have questions, please use the contact information in the description directly. We attempt to forward emails sent to contact@tvar.org to the foster though it is not necessarily before the animal is adopted. Also, volunteers who monitor this email do not know the animals whereas the fosters do!
If a dog or puppy is in foster with TVAR, please fill out an adoption application (available here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/TVAR/Dog). We consider each application and pick the best one for the animal in question. In general, we do not do out of area adoptions. Kittens do not need applications completed - just contact the foster!
If an animal is at ECAS, they have their own adoption process. Please go to ECAS (they are open daily 11:30am to 5:30pm except holidays) to meet the animal and learn about ECAS's adoption process.
All TVAR animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, treated for worms and fleas, and microchipped. Felines are FIV/FeLV tested. Many of our pets also come with a "packed bag" that can include a variety of goodies like bedding, food, toys, leashes, and even private training sessions with our professional trainers. Adoption fees vary by species. Our fee range is $120-$350. The foster volunteer can provide specifics for the animals in their care.

More about this rescue
Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) was founded in 1992 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area). We primarily place shelter animals in foster care of TVAR volunteers while trying to find them permanent homes. Although we do not have a facility of our own, we help over 1000 animals find forever homes yearly through the hard work and dedication of our East County Animal Shelter shelter volunteers who socialize shelter animals daily and assist the public in selecting a pet to adopt.
We have a variety of volunteer programs including a shelter program and four foster programs. We are always looking for more volunteers - especially fosters. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please check out our volunteer page (https://www.tvar.org/volunteer/) for information.
