My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All AHHS animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption (if species appropriate).
Application and counseling is required prior to all adoptions.

Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful!

Grab the tissues, you're going to need them for this old gal. Introducing Tinker or "Tink Tink".

Tink is a senior chihuahua (we believe around 13 years of age). She came to us on a transport of animals from a rural shelter in NC. Unfortunately, Tink's owner was placed into a nursing home and their family turned her into the shelter. Given all she's ever known was her owner, she did not fare well in a shelter environment, so we jumped on the opportunity to take her into our program!

Let us tell you a little about Tinker...

Now, Tink ain't no spring chicken, but boy is she still feisty! She only has two teeth left (no, we're not kidding). She's been deemed generally healthy! Her senior bloodwork was phenomenal and we plan to spay her (to avoid pyometra) and to get her a nice dental procedure. She follows her foster mom around and begs for attention, but is content once she's got eyes on her. She picked up a routine rather quickly and is doing great with going potty outside! Tink would do well in a home with other dogs, but not with children. She is just too old and fragile! We are not sure how she does with cats, but would be happy to test upon request.

Please, someone give Tink Tink the golden years she deserves. She is just such a wonderful little lady.  If interested, apply online at ahhumanesociety.org or email Halee at halee@ahhumanesociety.org or Mary at maryjames@ahhumanesociety.org.

More about this rescue

The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society is a private non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to the welfare of all animals. We do not receive public or government funding, and no monies from national humane organizations or county, state or federal government funds. Our work depends solely on grants, fundraisers, adoptions, private funding, memberships and donations. The fees collected from the adoption of each animal help to offset some of the costs involved in providing care for the animals and preparing an animal for placement into a new home. We value every animal equally and consider all to be priceless
