My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Six. Count ‘em, six cats. I’m Lisee, one of the last of six cats from a household of cats to arrive at Paws and Claws. Our person rescued each and every one of us as strays. She had us spayed and neutered. She cared for us and loved us. But now she has health issues and is unable to take care of us. Her family couldn’t take us, so they brought us to the shelter. Max and I were the last ones to be brought here. The others are Pixie, Polly, Buffy, and Toby. They had a head start on adjusting, so I hope you’ll be patient with Max and me. Because we all know each other and get along so well, the staff are requiring that we be adopted in pairs. I’d like that! I’m a large, 5-year-old medium-haired brown/orange tabby girl. Like all the others, I am affectionate, and I like children. I’m playful and like toys. It doesn’t really matter which one of the five I go home with, as long as I have a friend that I am bonded with from my home to play with so that I am not lonely. I want to continue all the good times we had together in our former home as we start a new life. Come spend time with Lisee and get to know my five good friends. See you soon.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
