My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks

Date into Rescue: 11/7/2024
Reason for being in rescue: Sweet Potato was found as a stray in South Carolina and landed at a shelter. CPR pulled him from the shelter.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Sweet Potato is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Sweet Potato arrived at the shelter with a foot that was basically dead. There was no choice but amputation on his leg. He is now the happiest tripod you will ever meet!
Weight: 32 lbs
Height: 24 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? No, though he would really love one.

What kind of home would be best for me?  Sweet Potato would be suitable for any family willing to welcome him, but he would make an exceptional family dog. The more hands to love and help him through life, the merrier! Sweet Potato’s dream home is a family who will love him unconditionally, and give him the most normal, healthy life possible. It is crucial that Potato maintains a HEALTHY weight to prevent joint damage later in life. Exercise, healthy food and interactive brain games will be vital to his success, health and upbringing. Sweet Potato would also love a fence at his new home, and it is required to ensure he has enough exercise and playtime!

What is my personality like? Are you looking to add some three-legged fun to your life - Meet Sweet Potato, the most precious tri(paw)d we’ve ever laid eyes on! Potato is a special boy. He is a victim of animal neglect which resulted in his left, hind leg having to be amputated. We’re not sure exactly what Potato went through, but we know his terrible situation has left him completely vulnerable and in desperate need of a loving family. You see, Potato doesn’t know he’s different. Dogs do not have the ability to realize they are amputees! Sweet Potato simply is ready to move on with his life and do things that bring him joy.

There are a few things you should know about owning a Tripawd! Canine Amputees carry a lot of weight up front. This means that Sweet Potato will possibly get exhausted a lot faster than the average, able bodied dog would. If you have another pet in the home, it’s important to make sure Potato doesn’t exhaust himself trying to keep up all the time! Tripods can also hesitate when going up and down stairs often, as well as struggle to scratch hard to reach places! These are all just a couple things we want potential adopters to keep in mind when adopting an amputee. He is truly just like any other dog, he just needs a little extra help sometimes!

There is so much more to this sweet boy than just a cute face and three legs! Sweet Potato wholeheartedly thinks he’s the fastest dog on three legs, but to his core he is a couch potato. Hence the name! He enjoys cuddling up to you and receiving endless amounts of affection, but he also loves to play in the sunshine and explore outdoors. Potato is settling in well here at the farm, and making daily progress, but his redemption story begins with you — His story as “The Three Legged Pet” is just beginning and our hopes are for you to create his happy ending!

With Love, Potato & His Caregivers!

How do I act when I first meet new people?

Other tips and tidbits: Sweet Potato was found as a stray so we have absolutely no history on him. Based on his overall health and condition he was estimated at 1 year old when he arrived in rescue. We celebrate his birthday 10/30/20

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
