Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Onyx is a 9-year-old Chihuahua with a big personality and a soft spot for his people. This calm and clever little guy knows tricks, loves playing with soft toys, and enjoys heading out for walks to explore. Once he bonds with you, he'll be your devoted shadow, always eager for a butt rub and some quality time.
Onyx has a protective streak and takes his role as your guardian seriously, so his adopter should expect him to act as a watchdog when visitors come over. Because of this, a calm, low-traffic home without a lot of new faces would suit him best. He's nervous when meeting new people but warms up with time and patience. Onyx isn't a fan of being picked up, but he has plenty of other ways to show affection.
He's never lived with other dogs and is a bit wary of them, so he may prefer to be your one-and-only canine. However, he's done well living with cats in the past. Due to his protective nature and need for a calm environment, Onyx would thrive in an adult-only home where he can settle in at his own pace.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who will love you fiercely and make you smile every day, Onyx may be your perfect match!
If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways:
Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt.
**the below two methods are slower than visiting us**
Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours.
All adult dog adoption fees include;
-spay/neuter
-rabies and kennel cough vaccinations
- heartworm test
-current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian)
-microchip implanted & registered to adopter
