My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sesame may start off a little shy, but don’t let that fool you – once she gets to know you, she’ll become your most affectionate little companion. This sweet girl can be a bit skittish at first, getting spooked easily by loud noises or quick movements, but with a little patience and love, she’ll open up to show you just how loving she really is.
Once she knows that she can trust you, she’ll become a true cuddlebug. She loves to rub against you, purring happily as she sits on your lap or snuggles on your chest, offering all the warmth and affection you could ask for.

When it comes to playtime, Sesame is full of energy and curiosity! She loves to play and is responsive to most cat toys. She’s a smart little kitten and enjoys the challenge of figuring out how to get her treats, so a food puzzle is one of her favourite activities.

Sesame is a good eater and isn’t picky when it comes to her meals. She’s also fully litter box trained, though, like many long-haired cats, she sometimes needs a little help with hygiene around her bottom. A quick trim around her fur would ensure she stays clean and happy.

Sesame loves to play, wrestle, sleep and groom with her brother Chia.

If you’re patient and give her the time she needs to feel comfortable, Sesame will reward you with the sweetest purrs, soft snuggles, and a deep, affectionate bond. She’s the perfect match for someone looking for a kitten with a gentle soul, who’s ready to blossom into a loving and loyal friend.

Sesame must be adopted with Chia.

Like all ACR cats, Sesame has been treated for fleas and parasites and is up-to-date on vaccines.

Additional adoption info

If you are thinking of adopting a cat or kitten, please contact us. Annex Cat Rescue has matched over 1000 cats and kittens with good adoptive homes since our group started!

Annex Cat Rescue cats live in real homes with our foster volunteers -- not in cages! This way, the cats live in normal homes and receive good food and medical care -- and lots of personal attention. We get to know each cat, so we can help you find the best cat for you. It's kind of like a kitty match-making service!

All of our cats are vaccinated, have been de-wormed, and are spayed or neutered once they reach six months of age.

We are always available if you have questions or concerns as your new cat is adjusting to your home.

Here is our adoption process:

  • Please leave a voice mail or email.

  • One of our Adoption Team volunteers will contact you to find out more about the kind of kitty you are looking for. We will suggest which of our cats might be the best match for you, and put you in touch with a few foster homes for you to contact.

  • You can go and visit the cat in the foster home and see if you think it's a match.

  • If you fall in love on the spot (so easy with kitties!) we ask you to go home and think about it overnight, since it's an important decision for you and for the kitty.

  • Then, if it's a match, you can bring your cat carrier (and the adoption fee -- which is modest and does not cover all of our expenses) then take your kitty home! We ask all adopters to sign our adoption agreement, which just sets out some basics so we all understand our roles, with the kitty's best interests first and foremost!

  • A day or two later, we'll call you to make sure all is well and provide any suggestions that might be helpful, if needed.

The Annex Cat Rescue's motto is "Cat Adoption with a Difference." If the adoption does not work out (a rare occurrence, in part due to our excellent "match-making"!), whatever the reason, the cat will always be welcomed back to our organization. We want the best for our kitties!

The Annex Cat Rescue is a grassroots community organization. We are 100% non-paid volunteer-run. Our organization attempts to make a real difference for the homeless, stray and abandoned cats in this city through direct intervention and education. Every day, many people turn to us for help when Toronto Animal Services cannot.

ACR does *not* run an animal shelter. All of our cats/kittens live in volunteer foster homes across Toronto where they are allowed to blossom and grow in a "home" environment (rather than in cages), and where they receive individual attention and love.

While this prevents possible behavioural problems associated with caging animals, this also allows us to get to know each animal intimately and thus we can make excellent matches with adopters. Potential adopters are required to make appointments to view the animals in their respective homes.

Our organization is "no kill". This means that cats in our care remain in foster homes are not euthanized (except for dire humane reasons). City shelters do not have such a policy.

More about this rescue

Cat Adoption with a Difference

The Annex Cat Rescue began as a group of volunteers living primarily in the Annex neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We now have members from all over the city. We share a common bond -- a love of cats and concern for their welfare. We are a non-profit organization and have no government funding.

It is our goal to eliminate cruelty to animals by providing for the fostering and adoption of cats that are homeless, abandoned, or where their owners (through illness, age, or death) can no longer care for them. We try to educate members of our community regarding the proper care of cats and to provide information aimed at reducing the feral, homeless, and abandoned populations. Throughout the year, we assist in the feeding of many feral cat colonies and operate a trap-neuter/spay-return (TNR) program.

Please lend your support to our cause by adopting one of our wonderful cats or by contributing a small donation!

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The success of Annex Cat Rescue depends on the dedication of our volunteers -- not just the foster homes and trappers who work hands-on, but also those who support ACR's rescue work behind-the-scenes. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in becoming a volunteer, or expanding your work within the organization, please apply online.

Please see our website for some ways you can help. Our experienced volunteers are always there to support you, and even a few hours of your time every month can make a big difference.
