My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Frankie V is one of the sweetest German Shepherd pups we’ve ever met. She’s been with us for 3 weeks now and knows when it’s time for food, when it’s time to potty, and when it’s time to rest. We haven’t had any potty accidents in our house from her and she has been an incredible studio puppy to all of the students, inviting everyone to say hi especially if there are hugs and cuddles involved 💜 Labeled as a 7-year-old, she acts much more like a puppy in her playful moments. We believe she’s closer to 4 or 5, but she has never had a chance to just be a puppy, encouraged to play like there’s no tomorrow. When we first brought her home from the shelter in Dallas she was shy, albeit still worried you would leave her. She was described as docile in group play, but we have attempted to introduce her to our pack many times and she has proven aggressive every time. Three weeks in she is still not a fan of other dogs or the cats she sees in the windows, but she has gotten more active and playful with humans. She will even run figure eights while she’s filled with beans, as we say. Even with a limp in her left leg, she runs around. The doctors noted her leg favoring after her spay in early October 2024. But, we actually see less of her leg tensing when she has run around and played that day versus when she hasn’t. When we adopted her, she was severely underweight at 51 lbs. You could see her ribs, and her hip bones had absolutely no muscle around them to support her legs, as our vet informed us. She’s probably closer to 60 lbs now, but still has a little more meat to put on her bones in time. She tested positive for heartworm at the shelter, but our vet tested her blood and found zero larvae. She is on heart worm preventative to continue that. Frankie enjoys beef liver treats especially when she’s training, and she is so tender when she takes them. She is great on leash, knows basic commands like come, sit, lay down, and is working on stay (she has abandonment issues). She sees her people as her flock; those she is responsible for and from whom she only asks for love. She is a jealous little one and does not do well with other animals. But, of course, having to fend for yourself your whole life, you wouldn’t want to give up the good that’s finally made it your way. Frankie needs a home where she has a yard and a family to love, one where she will be able to be with you or protect you; being alone in the house is very scary for her but if she can protect your land, she’s happy 💜 We love her dearly, but as an existing pack of 5 small to medium dogs, she feels threatened in our environment, creating a threatening persona herself to our pack. Their fear is palpable, and so is hers. So, in the interest of the wellness of all puppies involved, Frankie needs to find a home that meets her needs. She deserves a life full of love and puppyhood, just as we all do. Until then, we will continue to show her the love she deserves to know from the world. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * If you have a specific question about Frankie V, then please email newdigs@dallaspetsalive.org.
