My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a loyal, dedicated sweet buddy?  Do you enjoy someone always willing to go to the bathroom with you or gaze lovingly at you while you shower? Hanka emphatically says "me, me,me"!!!!   Hanka is a very smart girl and quickly learned to sit, down, gentle (to take treats), and off.  She initially was a free spirit (AKA no training) and would jump, nip and paw in excitement.  She has greatly improved in these areas but still will get excited and jump.
She was surrendered with her sister and together these two girls were the epitome of Littermate syndrome.  They were dog reactive, fighting amongst themselves and territorial.  They have since been separated and Hanka is a new dog.  She loves romping with the resident dogs and has showed zero dog aggression. She has not completely learned how to read the cues of the other dogs and will to work on that (one resident dog is not a fan of sharing his ball - he growls and moves from her and she thinks it is great fun).  Hanka would benefit from an owner with GSD experience.
With consistency and training Hanka is going to be an excellent, beautiful and loyal dog.  The owners who surrendered her said she was great with kids but in my opinion, her jumping/nipping when excited would need children over 10 that are dog savvy.

She has never walked on a leash when she arrived and now does quite well.  She still pulls and crosses your body but doesn't fight the leash.  She rode nicely in the car.  She has not had an accident in the house and knows how to use the doggie door.  If she is out in the yard and sees a person or a dog- she doesn't quite bark.  Think Coyote shriek.  Probably not good for apartment living unless she would be with you at all times.  If she is beside you, she is quiet, content and will curl up anywhere to keep an eye on you.
She is fostered in Colorado Springs.

RezDawg's adoption fees cover rescue and transportation costs, spay/neuter, microchip, deworming and vaccinations to bring the animals up-to-date at their time of adoption. You save a bundle of money by adopting from a non-profit—and even more importantly, you allow RezDawg Rescue to save another animal from being euthanized. ALL funds are used to save and support the animals!

Additional adoption info

We are doggie and kitty match-makers. We do everything in our power to assure that our dogs or cats will thrive in your environment.

Please start by submitting an application to adopt on our website. We do our best to respond to all applications but do to the number of applications received, this may always not be possible.

If you, your family and your lifestyle look like a good fit for the personality and needs of the animal, there's a phone call to chat and answer any additional questions. From there we will arrange a no-obligation meet and greet, where the animal could then go home with you, provided it is a good fit for all involved! (All this can happen within a week's time!)

A contract is signed at time of adoption. If for ANY reason you are unable to keep your companion, we quite passionately INSIST the animal be returned to us and NOT dropped in a shelter. We would happily take any of our adoptions back if it proves NOT a good fit for your family. :-)

Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, basic vaccinations, (including rabies if old enough), deworming, rescue and transport costs, other medical services as needed (which can include but not limited to skin scrape, fecal exam, x-ray, amputation and hospitalization). Felines additionally receive an felv/fiv test and checked for ringworm with the Woods lamp prior to transport.

Adoption fees may vary due to special health circumstances, but typically start with...adult dogs (1 year and older): $425; puppies: $475; adult cats (1 year and older): $175; kittens: $250.

Go meet their pets

We are a foster based rescue ~ we DO NOT have a physical shelter at the moment. All of our dogs and cats reside in foster homes all throughout the Front Range and the Western Slope of Colorado. We have adoption events regularly at Petsmart stores in Denver, CO. If we do not have an event scheduled, we can arrange a time for you to meet one of our animals available for adoption.

More about this rescue

We relocate dogs and cats from high-intake shelters, animal control facilities, and reservations in the Four Corners area to animal rescue partners and forever homes in Colorado. We provide transportation to foster homes and other partner organizations, offer medical care and low/no cost spay and neuter services, manage a network of foster homes for temporary shelter, and run adoption events so that these animals can find forever homes.

Since March of 2012, we have transported thousands of at-risk dogs and cats to safety, solely on generous donations from caring individuals like you who see how dire the need is in and around the Navajo reservation.
