My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello to all the Grinch and Whoville lovers out there! It gives us great pleasure to introduce you to Augustus Maywho (the Mayor of Whoville)! Our boy is not a self-serving political figure as in the Grinch movie lol, but he looks JUST like him (see side-by-side comparison photos)! The Mayor is a 1 year old pocket American Bully at a small, but stocky 43lbs. He loves to be active in short energy bursts (with incredibly fast rocket zoomies!), but then settles in and crashes for cuddles and a nappy with his peeps. No hiking partner here, but instead you've got a couch partner for binge watching series on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu!

The Mayor loves his canine foster sister and is great with other dogs that match his rough and tumble play style (he's good with short play spurts, not high endurance roughhousing sessions - think 400-meter dash versus triathlon). Bonus - he is both crate trained and housetrained! Homes with sturdy children 8 years of age and older will be a good fit for this boy (he comes in like the stocky wrecking ball, er meatball, that he is - he can't help it, he just adores human interaction!). For more information how to cast a "yes!" vote for Mayor Augustus to come reside with your family, please email his public relations coordinator Michelle at michelle.p@poainc.org AND complete an application ASAP at www.poainc.org

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
