My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Scarlet - she is the perfect mix of cuddle bug and little adventurer!
She takes her snuggles *seriously*— if it were a job, she'd be employee of the month. Her favorite nap spot? All the way under the covers — making her the best winter companion for those chilly Minnesota nights. Your feet will thank you!

Though she’s a little shy at first, it doesn’t take long for this tiny dynamo to warm up and become the life of the party. Once she lets her guard down, she’s full of joy, playful energy, and endearing quirk. Despite her small size, she’s all heart and loves to romp around with her two foster brothers (who are basically giants compared to her!).

She adores other dogs, humans of all sizes, and anyone who’s ready to spare a snuggle. Don’t be surprised if she gently climbs right into your lap or curls up next to you. She’s a social butterfly who loves everyone! If you’ve got a camera handy, have it ready to snap some super Insta-worthy moments.

She’s spent time around cats and is curious, but always respects their boundaries. She’s also made great strides with potty training, and though she still has a little work to do, she’s mastered the puppy pad game and is making progress every day.

Her energy is contagious. She’ll have you laughing, playing, and wanting to be by her side every moment. Her ultimate goal? To be your best friend, and trust us, she’ll do it in style. If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly companion who’s ready to light up your life, she’s your girl!

Scarlett is estimated to be 6 months old and 16 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representatives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.

Go meet their pets

Come on out and meet all of our great adoptable pups!! On weekends we have meetings at random locations. See our events page on our website or social media.

More about this rescue

Safe Hands is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.

We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.

This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.
