Hi! My name is Rue and I am from Oklahoma.
From her foster: Rue, AKA Phoebe, is bursting with energy and sweetness! She would be a good companion for an athletic family looking for an active, playful addition to their lives. She is whip smart and very trainable. In less than a week, we have already had success with commands such as "sit" and "stay" and she is on her way to being potty trained. She stays in her crate all night without any accidents.
Rue adores all people, gets along well with other dogs, and even enjoys the company of cats (even ones that aren't too keen for her company). Given her high energy levels, she may be better suited for a home without very young children or babies, as she has typical cattle dog energy and can be overly enthusiastic and jump on people. She doesn't realize her own strength!
Great things about Rue
- she's good on the leash. Putting the harness on is always accompanied by typical puppy mouthiness, but once the harness is on-she's ready to trot
- she's really smart and with the right family will be a very trainable dog
- she doesn't appear to be scared or activated by cats, bikes, skateboards, scooters. When walking, she simply ignores them
- she loves being near her humans and is very responsive to her name being called
- we are working on socializing but she seems to enjoy the company of other dogs. She will let them approach and sniff and then wants to play. I have seen her bark at other dogs when she sees them from afar but no growling thus far.
- she is extremely chill in car rides! We keep her in a plastic crate in the back and she will whine for a couple minutes before settling down and not making a peep the rest of the ride.
- it's too cold to let her swim, but we think Rue might love the water. One our walks near the river or creeks, she has a desire to wade in.
Some qualities of note:
- Rue does have a bit of separation anxiety. It has lessened the more time we have had her. She does not like going to the fenced backyard unless you stay there with her. She will follow you from room to room. And she gets very very hyped when let out of her crate and can excitement pee and jump on you a lot. I think with time and routine, these bouts of anxiety will lessen.
- Rue needs stimulation and exercise. Again, she's super smart and is eager to learn new tricks and run around.
If you're looking for a loving, dynamic companion who thrives on play, puzzles, exercise, and companionship, Rue could be the right pup for you. With firm training and plenty of adventure, she would be a wonderful pet.
Rue is a typical cattle dog and needs room to run and roam. I think a sibling dog to play with would be good for her, but she would also do well in a single pet home as long as her family makes the time to let her be her athletic self. She loves puzzles and games and is very food motivated.
I am looking for a foster or forever family!

More about this rescue
The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.
We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.
You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
