Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
This gorgeous boy is named Darren! He was found as a stray in Philadelphia and brought to the animal control shelter in hopes someone would claim him. Since the shelter was so full, he was timestamped for euthanasia. Instead, he landed a foster home with City of Elderly Love!
Since he was a stray, we don't know Darren's exact age, but he's estimated to be around 10 years old. While we don't know much about his past, Darren did great in his shelter evaluations and has proved to be an easy-going all-around good boy! He loves to be around other dogs, and has lived with large and small dogs in foster care. He prefers to eat his meals and high-value treats/bones away from the other dogs so he doesn't have to worry about sharing. But his favorite activity is to snuggle with his pit mix foster sister. They'll curl up on the dog bed together in the cutest little cuddle puddle. Darren has been introduced to cats but isn't currently living with them. We think he could live peacefully with a dog-savvy cat after an appropriate slow introduction!
Darren is a very generous dog! He adores his human friends. He will dote on his people with lots of snuggles and rest his head in their laps. He also loves to bring everyone presents! Blankets, dog beds, dog toys, your own shoes --- they are all fair game for Darren to present to his favorite people, especially when you get home from being out. That said, Darren was briefly adopted to a lovely family with multiple small children which proved to be too stressful for him so he was returned to us so we could find him a lower-key family. Darren is a regular at our adoption events and loves meeting new people, but we think that at his age, he'd be happiest in a home without rough and tumble kids.
While Darren does have some weakness in his hind legs which comes with age, that doesn't stop him from using the stairs in his row home foster home or going on neighborhood walks! He has a cloudy eye due to what appears to be an old injury but it causes him no pain and no limitations. He does like to have eyes (or paws!) on his people as much as he can, leading to whininess when you're home but he can't see you, but Darren hasn't shown any destructive behavior when he's left alone. He also walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and is housebroken. He's an absolute sweetheart who deserves to spend his golden years absolutely spoiled and loved on!
Darren is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! He has been fully vetted since leaving the shelter and iis neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him?
