My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Layla is a gentle soul searching for a quiet home where she can spread her joy. Originally caught by Animal Control in Upstate, SC, she was taken to the county shelter where she was to be euthanized for space. Layla was terrified in the shelter environment and not thriving. Since being rescued by our organization and moving to foster, Layla has opened up and shown that she is an amazing dog! At 10 years old, she is mature and done with all of the puppy shenanigans. Layla is shy and hesitant when meeting new people, but warms up quickly (especially to females). Layla is dog social and cat friendly. Children intimidate her with their loud noises and sudden movements, so teenagers would probably be best, though she'd much prefer a mature household.

When it comes to crating, Layla enters for a treat and relaxes, lays down, and is quiet. While she is crate trained, her foster currently leaves her out in the house when unattended and Layla is not destructive and just naps in her bed. She is house trained and has never had an accident in the house.

Layla is always happy to go outside for a walk. She pulls minimally, but is easily corrected. She does zig zag as she is always exploring! She rides well in the car.

Overall, Layla is a sweet, quiet, eager to please mature lady. She loves to get out of the house and explore with good energy despite her age. With a patient family to let her adjust, get to know them, and trust, she will make a wonderful loyal friend.

Additional adoption info

Adoption process:
Potential adopters complete our online application. From there, we contact them to continue the screening process including checking references, vet checks, and a personal phone interview. Upon completion, potential adopters are pre-approved.

From there, potential adopters are put in touch with the foster parent(s) of the dog they are interested in adopting. If a specific dog is not in mind, admins will make suggestions based on who we feel will be good candidates for their home. We take the foster's opinions into high consideration when determining ideal fit for an adoption.

Once the dog is determined to be a good fit for the adoptive home, the adopter is given advisement on decompression, training, safety gear, and future no preventative vetting. The adoption contract is signed and adoption fee paid to finalize the adoption.
