My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Wendy and Casper are a one-year-old mom and three-month-old kitten pair looking for their forever home together!

Wendy is a sweet one-year-old female who is learning how to accept love and enjoy a life of play and relaxation. She had a rough first year of life before making her way to Pet Haven. Understandably, she’s needed to take her time decompressing and coming out of her shell as she learns to trust, but she has come so far in the short time she’s been in foster care. She loves to take naps with Casper, be curious about new things (when she’s feeling comfortable), play with her toys, get pets and chin scratches, and wrestle with Casper!

Casper is a three-month-old kitten with a very big personality! He loves his mama with all his heart, and will be so happy to get to stay with her forever. Casper is known for his loud, opinionated voice, goofy hops, and hilarious zoomies. He does everything at 150%. When he’s playing, he’s playing as hard as he can, and when he’s sleeping, he’s out cold. He truly is the personality of the house, so his forever family should be ready for some new excitement in their life!

Because of Wendy’s background, Wendy and Casper are looking for a home with no young children (ages 10+ please) and no other pets. Wendy will thrive with humans who are patient in understanding her origin story. She is truly such a sweetheart and would never hurt a fly, but needs time to rewire the instinctual fear that kept her alive. Both Wendy and Casper would love lots of toys and some cat trees to climb! They are very good at entertaining themselves with toys, but will also need a couple of daily play sessions with their people too!

Wendy and Casper are on the hunt for their perfect forever home now, and will be ready to go home after spay/neuter surgery in late November. They are such a special pair with a special story. If you’d like to be part of this incredible success story and love these two forever, please apply to learn more!

There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best estimate.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
