My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Benji is a handsome senior poodle, approximately 9 years old, looking for a caring and loving foster-to-adopt home. He was a transfer from local animal control where he had been found as a stray. Unfortunately, no one reclaimed him.

We had him evaluated by our vet who found he has chronic dry eye (KCS). He is currently on 3 daily eye medications, which have helped immensely in clearing up his eyes and reducing the amount of discharge. Benji does have very limited vision and will bump into things at times if he is caught off guard. Benji is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and testing. We have him on a low daily dose of gabapentin to help with discomfort we had been noticing. We believe it to be due to old age and/or arthritis.

Benji will take a little time to warm up to new people, but he is a lover once he is comfortable. He loves to give kisses and relax by your side and in your lap! Can anyone give this sweet senior a chance?

Additional adoption info

Please be sure to review the shelters Adoption Process prior to considering our facility for your adoption journey.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

WCHS is conducting the viewing of our animals by appointment only. The Kennel Adoption Application and Cat Room Questionnaire can be found on our website under the ADOPT tab, then click Adoption Process. Please be sure to review our processes closely before filling out either form.
Once the forms are submitted, management will receive and review them within 24-48 hours. Please understand that our facility is receiving a high volume of request and are doing our best to accommodate as many as possible. Management may not contact you for 3-5 days. You will either be contacted via phone, or email with the findings of our inquiry and/or to schedule your one-on-one viewing appointment with staff.
Please understand that our facility takes the health and safety of its staff and surrounding community very seriously. With that being said, entry to our building is only granted to those who have been pre-approved and have been given a viewing appointment. Walk-in viewing IS NOT an option.

More about this shelter

As Will County’s original no-kill shelter we’ve been serving the area for over 40 years with a single purpose, provide a safe haven for homeless pets and help them find their forever home.

Every day of the year we care for up to 30 homeless dogs and 60 cats looking for their forever homes. We provide for their general health care, shelter and well being through our network of volunteers and resources.

It’s important that you know that we’re a private shelter 501(3)(c) not-for-profit that receives no federal or local government dollars to run our facility and care for pets. In fact the shelter relies on generous donations from people just like you to make it all happen.
