Name: Clare
Age: 1 year, 7 months
Gender: Female
Breed: Pit mix
Weight: 35-40lbs
Crate Trained: Yes, fully crate trained
Potty Trained: Yes, fully house broken
Dog Friendly: Working on it. She's building her confidence and could live with another dog, if it's the right one, would do better as the only dog, but not out of the question. She is currently living with 3 other dogs, going on pack walks and slowly spending time with them. She shows far more excitement and interest towards our dogs, hasn't shown any aggression. Clare is a young pup who just needs to learn how to dog.
Cat Friendly: I would say no, but it has never been tested, to my knowledge
Kid Friendly: Yes, with all people, she can be a little leery at first, gives a small bark, and backs up, however, give her a couple of treats and throw her a ball, and she quickly becomes your friend :)
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Heartworm: Negative
Microchipped: Yes
Energy Level: Medium to high. She needs her daily walks but is also very chill in the house, especially if she has some crew toys and gets some attention and walks. She's a good girl.
Meet Clare:
Clare is a remarkably intelligent dog who learns new commands with ease. She thrives on positive reinforcement, and a mix of treats and encouraging words can quickly teach her new tricks. Clare's love for learning makes her extremely trainable and perfectly suited for someone who enjoys engaging in ongoing training and exercise.
Beyond her smarts, Clare is a total sweetheart who adores cuddling, giving kisses, and spending time with her favorite humans. She has an incredibly soft coat and a personality that’s just as gentle. Each day, her confidence blooms a little more, and we’re continually impressed by her progress since leaving the shelter.
Having spent much of her young life in a shelter, Clare is still getting accustomed to the wider world. She is highly perceptive of her surroundings, requiring a patient owner who can slowly introduce her to new experiences. Clare mirrors the emotions of her humans—if you're patient and confident, she will be too.
Currently, Clare is working on her leash skills. She shows some reactivity to other dogs while on walks, but with daily practice and our other three dogs as role models, she is showing remarkable improvement. Initially, she may do best in a home with fewer dogs or as an only pet, where she can continue to build confidence without overwhelming stimuli. However, a house with another dog isn't out of the question; it just needs to be the right dynamic and a patient owner.
Clare is already a delight to be around, known for turning heads and eliciting smiles from passersby during walks. Her adorable demeanor is even more endearing in person than in photos. She’s a fun-loving goofball who’s improving on the leash, needing just a bit more confidence to master it. When we got Clare a week ago, her leash skills were around a 3 out of 10, but now she's at a 7. She's learned to heal and walk without pulling. She's vastly improved on her reactivity, but we are still working on eliminating it altogether. Her future human should commit to patience and consistency with leash training.
We adore Clare, and it’s hard not to fall for this charming 'little nugget' with a big brain and an even bigger heart. She's looking for a confident and consistent owner who can appreciate her intelligence and share in plenty of snuggles and smiles.
