Maize is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match!
Maize is a sweet girl we met at Chicago Animal Care and Control a few weeks ago. She was so timid and shy, and we knew she would blossom out of that stressful environment. She temporarily went into a foster home with kids, cats, and dogs until we found her a more permanent foster. Maize's main foster has dogs and cats and Maize fits right in! "Hello!!!! My name is Maize. I was found as a stray in the Chicagoland area, which landed me at CACC. The wonderful organization Heartland Animal Shelter came and picked me up and said "we have a foster for you." I was a little unsure and timid at first, but I settled into my foster Mom's pack quite nicely.
Not only is my foster Mom doing some potty training and basic obedience with me, but I am learning from the other dogs, how to be a dog. I play with an 8 yo male border collie, a 6 month old female shepherd mix, a 7yo female shepherd mix, and 15yo male wire terrier mix. I'm about 30 pounds so I am able to play with the 60 pounder, the 50 pounder, the other 30 pound foster puppy, and the 9 pounder. I am potty trained... well, when I am kept on a strict schedule. I am crate trained, I sit and am learning to shake/give paw. I have a good time and love to play!
I also reside with 4 cats, but I don't really pay that much attention to them. I am a little timid when first meeting someone but I warm up quickly, especially if you have treats.
My foster Mom has not experienced any resource guarding with me at all, bones, toys, my foster moms lap, etc. The whole pack is fed separately from one another in their crates though, but I have not shown my foster mom any food aggression even when she has to put her hand in to re-adjust the bowl. I am just a happy & sweet girl, and now I'm looking for a family of my own. Could you be my family?"
Maize's adoption fee is $250. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
