HSSM`s favorite PIT-opotamus!! Ernie is a 1 year old chunky Pitopotamus mix who has been in the care of our loving staff since November 2024 when he was brough in as a stray by Animal Control. This 58lb boy is a gentle giant who just wants to sit in your lap and be given treats all day long. Anytime he sees a cookie his eyes go bug-eyed and huge as he can not contain his excitement. He loves to sing you the song of his people when you don`t pay attention to him. He is active and will love to show you his zoomies in the yard or go on walks with you. He is up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. He is ready to go home today. Do you want a Pitopotamus?!

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
