A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Special Needs? Rudis is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Rudis is a bernadoodle (part Bernese Mountain dog and part poodle). We will never guarantee that a doodle is hypoallergenic or that they will not shed. If you have allergy concerns, Rudis is not your guy.

Fence needed? Yes, Rudis requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller.
What kind of home would be best for me? Rudis is a young dog who's had very little experience. You will be his 5th home in 3 short years. He’s a sweet pup who can thrive in a variety of homes, whether you're a single person, a couple, or a family. His ideal adopter will be patient and give him time to adjust — it may take a month or so before his true personality shines through. Rudis requires a home with rescue experience. He needs a family that will allow him time to live on his terms until he is comfortable. He will not be adopted to a home with children.
Rudis could be happy as an only dog, but he would enjoy the company of another dog. We’d prefer he be in a home with a younger, active dog, but he could also be an only dog with a solid plan for socialization at least four times a week. Socialization is important for Rudis, as it helps him build confidence and develop good doggy social skills. This can be done through playdates, doggy daycare, or group walks with other dogs.
Socialization occurs when dogs are off leash and free to be themselves, unencumbered by human restraints (other than the fence that keeps them safely contained). Socialization times would be for instance, inviting a neighbor or friend over with their dog to play in your fenced yard or going to someone else’s home to play in their fence yard. Socialization time could be doggy daycare. Socialization time could be a group walk if you include a playtime at the end of it. Training classes do not always include socialization time. Some puppy classes do include a period of time at the end where the dogs can romp and play together. This would be perfectly acceptable. Time can also take place inside the home, it does not have to be an outdoor area, as long as the dogs are free to interact with each other without leashes or other restraints.
What is my personality like? Say hello to Rudis, charming young, blue merle Bernedoodle who's eager to find his forever home He's lived most of his life in a home where breeding was the name of the game. He's officially retired and ready to learn how to be your pet and companion.
Rudis was recently adopted but returned after he growled at a family member. We're not sure what led to this reaction, as Rudis had only been with the family for a few days and had barely settled in. He did not eat at all in the four days he was there which suggests he may not have been feeling well or was still adjusting.
While Rudis may be a bit hesitant on leash at first, he quickly learns and settles into a nice walk with a little patience. He knows how to sit on command and loves treats, which makes him an excellent candidate for training. He’s friendly with the dogs he’s met and is slowly getting more comfortable around people. Rudis does not respond well to sudden movements or too-fast approaches. Slow and steady wins the race with this boy. If you push him, he will growl and nip.
This three-year-old pup prefers an active lifestyle filled with walks, trips to the dog park, and opportunities to join you in your daily activities. Keeping him engaged will help him stay happy and healthy. While he may be a bit wary initially, his love for people shines through once he feels comfortable. Once he trusts you, he’ll lean in for belly rubs and snuggles. He hasn’t interacted with cats yet, but with some time and proper introductions, he may do well with them.
How do I act when I first meet new people? When Rudis meets someone new, he can be a bit shy and reserved. But if you sit down on the grass, he’ll quickly warm up and seek out your affection. He lives for belly rubs, pets, and any chance to be loved on. It’s easy to win his heart once he feels comfortable!

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
