My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Herbie was one of four guinea pigs rescued from a hoarding situation of over 100 Guinea Pigs and Rabbits, and was one of the original guinea pigs who was taken in by the previous owner before their numbers started growing out of control.

Herbie since he has been with us has been the most social of the bunch and comes right up to our staff and volunteers hands when they approach.

Despite everything that he has been through, Herbie now deserves to be a man of leisure. He would like an owner who can keep his beautiful coat shiny and groomed, will feed him fresh and delicious veggies, and as much Timothy hay that he can want.

Can you make his dreams come true?

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
