My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet girl looking for her forever home!

WAYLAN NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:    Waylan        Best Guess for Breed:    Shepherd and Lab mix

Best Guess for Age:    4 years and 10 months as of Sept. 2024      Gender:    Female

Approximate Weight:    28 lbs

Gets Along With: Waylan does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven’t seen Waylan with cats or kids, but she can be tested! We would be cautious placing Waylan in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.

Currently Living At: DC area foster home

Special Adoption Considerations: Waylan is shy and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog.

Waylan is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.

We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Waylan is Looking ForHer forever home! This sweetie has come all the way from Texas hoping to find her forever family! Waylan is such a sweetie who wants nothing more than to trot through life with all the confidence of a well-loved dog. To get there, she needs extra patient and loving adopters whop understand he needs to experience new places and people at his pace. A welcoming resident dog will show him how to dog as well!

Waylan is just such a great girl who will pay back all the love, patience, and support she receives by being your loyal, loving companion for all her days. What do you say? Will she be yours?

What My Foster Says About Me: Waylan is an absolute sweetheart who seems to be experiencing the comforts of a loving home for the very first time. Though the world feels a bit overwhelming to her right now, her heart is wide open and ready to bond deeply with her new family. As a house guest, Waylan has been wonderful. She sleeps soundly through the night in her crate, keeps her chewing to appropriate dog bones, and is kind and respectful toward my resident dog. Though understandably cautious at first, Waylan quickly warms up to people. Her face lights up when she meets someone new, and her happy tail wag says it all. She has a gentle, soulful side that’s incredibly endearing, and you can see how eager she is to trust and learn. With patience, reassurance, and a little guidance, Waylan is sure to blossom into the devoted and loving companion she’s meant to be

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
