Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
A spirited nine-year-old German Shepherd mix from Oakland, CA, whose zest for life and love for people is as vibrant as his handsome black-and-tan coat. Despite his senior status, Milo is a healthy, energetic soul often mistaken for a much younger dog, thanks to his good health and love for hiking, walking, and showing off his impressive training skills. This big-hearted guy is a wonderful training buddy, highly food-motivated, and already a pro at cues like “sit,” “down,” “spin,” “wait,” “leave it,” and even the nifty “fix your paw!” If you’re someone who loves bonding through training, Milo will be right by your side, eager to learn and thrilled to show you just how clever he can be!
Day-to-day, Milo is a mellow companion who spends much of his time snoozing but is always ready to hit the trails or take a stroll around the neighborhood. He’s polite on the leash and a calm friend to strangers and other dogs he meets while out and about. At home, Milo’s love for people is equally big, though he can get a little overexcited with new visitors, welcoming them with an enthusiastic greeting that sometimes involves a lot of face-licking! After an hour or so, he settles down and becomes a cozy, loyal cuddle buddy, happy to be a constant companion who sticks by your side.
Milo’s protective instincts make him a fantastic guard dog, though he’s not overly reactive like some canines in this role. If there’s an unusual noise in the middle of the night, like a door handle rattling, Milo will bolt up and let out a series of big, confident barks to let you know something’s up. On one memorable occasion, his growls and alarm barks turned out to be aimed at a curious raccoon peeking through the window! Despite his alertness, Milo has a great sense of judgment and doesn’t bark unnecessarily. Plus, he’s unbothered by fireworks or other loud noises, staying calm when many dogs might lose their cool.
Milo does get anxious around young children and would feel most comfortable in a home without babies or toddlers. However, he’s quite content and relaxed around older kids and adults, especially those who understand his need for calm introductions and consistent routines. He’s fine with short or long absences and is an easygoing fellow who’s housetrained, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
Milo isn’t a fan of cats and can be selective with dogs, so he’d be happiest as your one-and-only four-legged friend, or possibly with a compatible dog friend. If you’re searching for a loving, trainable, loyal companion with a playful side and a protective streak, Milo might just be your perfect match! Are you ready to invite this affectionate, well-mannered adventurer into your life?
