Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Here's what Hank's foster has to say!
Hank is a friendly little guy who loves people and other dogs. (Has not yet been tested around small children)
We think he is a Chiweenie (part Chihuahua/part Dachshund). He was found by a neighbor abandoned in the dog park. He is microchipped and the owner was contacted multiple times with no response. The neighbor lives in an apartment and was unable to keep him so we volunteered to foster him until another home could be found. We would have loved to keep him, but he is not fond of our cat. I don’t think he would harm a cat, but he barks a lot and gets over-excited when he is around the cat which is upsetting to our cat. He has been taken to the vet in September 2024 and given all vaccinations and checked for heartworms. He is heartworm negative and was immediately put on Simparico Trio which covers heartworms/flea/tick/roundworms. According to the microchip he is 5 years and 4 months old (as of 9/24).
Personality wise he loves to play with other dogs and plays very well with our dachshund. He would be fine as the only dog or with other dogs, but ideally his new home would not have cats. He is very loving and loves to cuddle under the covers in bed or up against you on the couch. He is a complete cuddle bug. He loves toys, walks, and food of course. We have had issues with him knocking over our trash can and getting into the trash, but he would be fine if his new family has a closet or under-counter trash bin so he doesn’t have an opportunity to get into the trash. We have a small kitchen, so our trash cans are out in the open. Other than that, he is a very smart, sweet, well-behaved dog and minds very well when you tell him to come to you or stop doing something. He is very eager to please. He is housebroken and knows how to use the dog door. If you don’t have a dog door he knows to go to the door and bark to let you know he needs to go out. He sleeps through the night and is just overall a great dog. He will make someone a great companion.

We want to ensure a lifelong placement for the rescued animal so at Second Chance Dog Rescue Mansfield we do our best to match potential adopters with their perfect pet. Our adoption process includes an initial application, with a home visit, references and vet checks. If the match is a good one, we then finalize the adoption and wish you happy tails. We are always available to help with the transition to a new home. We check in during the first few weeks to answer any questions or help with any issues. We also love hearing you brag about your new adopted fur baby and love getting updates throughout the year.
