My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweet wiggle butt could use a soft landing (for once!) Her name is Remi and she recently came back to us when her owner unexpectedly passed away. They were great friends and she enjoyed zooming around his yard and cuddling together on the couch. She had dog friends and kid friends and was loved by everyone who met her. She just needs a little bit more of the same, please!

She originally to us came from Utah where her family had to give her up when they moved. She had been raised by them since she was a puppy and lived in a household with kids and another dog. She exhibited the drive (a boldness and intensity) we look for in our dogs, but ultimately, it was not quite enough for the type of work we train our dogs for.

She still loves toys, is full of energy and has that drivey spirit we love so much! But she truly is a social creature and craves the company of humans (and other dogs too!) She is the perfect size too for sharing a couch!

She's a little bit older now, but you'd never know it, she has lots of puppy spirit left in her (the good kind, not the pee-all-over-the-floor-kind) She is kind and funny and loves to snuggle. She loves to play. Her overall spirit has not diminished even with all her upheavals and change.

She would make an excellent companion dog for a family or an active partner. She might like some dog sports -- she's fairly athletic in build. We do know she would like another home, though, preferably sooner than later.

If you feel like igniting the flame in your heart, she will make it burn brighter! Guaranteed!

More about this rescue

We are a national training center for search and rescue dogs where we professionally train and then pair talented dogs with fire department handlers at no cost to them. Dogs that do not continue with search dog training (for a variety of reasons) are career changed or available for adoption into pet homes as part of our Lifetime Care Program. This program ensures that once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again.

Once we find an adoptive family for our extraordinary dogs, we train the canine and the family, stay in touch with the household, and act as the dog’s advocate for life, making sure that he or she is receiving excellent care in a happy, healthy environment.

The program ensures that every dog in the SDF family has a wonderful life and is in no risk of re-entering the shelter system. This is SDF’s unwavering commitment.
