My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zoey is a true ZINGER and she would like you to throw the ball for her, please! Her favorite thing in the entire world is playing fetch and she is really, really good at it. She will place it delicately in your hand and politely look at you until you comply with her wishes...THROW THAT BALL, PLEASE!

This girl is super crazy fun and maybe only just a teeny tiny bit wildebeest. She just enjoys life and everything in it! (which could be you...!) This is the way one of our staff described her and it kind of says it all: Zoey is sweet as can be and wanting nothing but to work with her partner. A perfect pup to snuggle up with and watch all the holiday movies, and still go outside for any adventure her person wants to do. She is one of those special dogs who will thrive wherever she is loved.

Zoey is the kind of dog you can fall in love with before you even meet her! Beautiful inside and out.
She came to us via a shelter in Klamath, OR, where she had been found as a stray. Because of her love of toys, we said, ‘Yes, please!’ However, once this Zinger got here, we realized she loved many other things too and didn’t really want to commit to having a 9-5 job every day...

She loves hikes and sniffaris. She’s fit, athletic, energetic, and would LOVE a sport. She likes a good cuddle and a nice chew on her bone after an active session of WHATEVER you want to do together. She is up for anything, super smart, eager to please, and has all the raw ingredients to make an amazing, loving, fun, best friend.

Did you ever have a friend, that no matter how dark and dreary your mood was, you couldn’t help but smile and maybe even LOL because that’s the way they made you feel without even trying? Well, that’s Zoey.

She wants you to be as happy as she is and will do whatever it takes to make it so!

More about this rescue

We are a national training center for search and rescue dogs where we professionally train and then pair talented dogs with fire department handlers at no cost to them. Dogs that do not continue with search dog training (for a variety of reasons) are career changed or available for adoption into pet homes as part of our Lifetime Care Program. This program ensures that once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again.

Once we find an adoptive family for our extraordinary dogs, we train the canine and the family, stay in touch with the household, and act as the dog’s advocate for life, making sure that he or she is receiving excellent care in a happy, healthy environment.

The program ensures that every dog in the SDF family has a wonderful life and is in no risk of re-entering the shelter system. This is SDF’s unwavering commitment.
