My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Midnight is a 3-year-old black domestic short hair who arrived at the shelter on October 14, 2024, after her owner moved and couldn’t take her along. She’s feeling very scared in the shelter environment and will need a calm, patient home where she can take her time to feel safe and comfortable. Midnight would be an ideal companion for someone who can provide a stable, gentle setting and allow her to come out of her shell at her own pace.

More about this shelter

Talbot Humane has been helping animals in Talbot County, Maryland, since 1932. For 80 years our goals have been:

To rescue animals from neglect;
To place companion animals into loving homes;
To reunite lost pets with their owners; and
To reduce pet overpopulation through aggressive spay and neuter programs.

Talbot Humane’s compassionate staff and dedicated volunteers are making a difference every day by offering crucial services to our community. Our adoption program is highly successful, placing animals not only in new loving homes but by working with other organizations. Whether we are receiving animals from other humane organizations in need of help or a 501.c.3 rescue group is accepting one of our special need residents into their care, we continue toward our mission of placing every treatable, adoptable pet coming through our doors into a forever home.

We continue to provide low cost spay/neuter surgeries to county residents. Our Pet Pantry provides more than 2,500 pounds of pet food annually to residents in need. Our educational programs offer information on a wide variety of animal care topics.

Talbot Humane’s contract to provide animal control services to Talbot County funds only a portion of our operating budget. As a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) organization, we rely heavily on the support of our county residents and other friends. .

Our facility at 7894 Ocean Gateway in Easton has expanded over the years to keep up with the needs of a growing animal population in the community. Caring for an average of 1,250 animals each year requires a significant commitment of funds for services and a small staff, even with the outstanding dedication of more than 200 volunteers.

Those volunteers and staff bring a wide variety of interests, talents, and skills to our efforts. What they all share is extraordinary compassion and commitment to the welfare of the homeless animals in Talbot Humane’s care.
