My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I'm Dominic. I've always been a bit of a lone ranger, preferring my own company to the hustle and bustle of a crowd. But don't mistake my independence for indifference. Once I get to know you, I'm a real softie. I'll curl up next to you and purr away as you stroke my fur. I'm a little shy at first, but with patience and love, I'll show you my cuddly side. I've lived a long life, full of interesting experiences. Now, I'm looking for a quiet, peaceful home where I can enjoy my golden years. If you're someone who values independence but also appreciates the comfort of a warm, purring friend, I could be the perfect addition to your home.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1971 as the Animal Aid Society of Englewood, Suncoast Humane Society began with a few cages where people left stray animals to be cared for. Over the years, our service area has grown to include over 400 square miles, covering three counties: Sarasota, Charlotte and portions of Lee.
Suncoast Humane Society provides a safe refuge for thousands of lost, abandoned and abused animals from our service area each year. We are committed to our open-door policy of never turning any animal away, regardless of health, temperament, breed or circumstances.
