Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Luna is an Alaskan Husky mix who's ancestors may have danced with wolves or howled at the moon. But that's not Luna. She's just a quiet, mellow homebody looking for that special person or family to call her own.
Want proof? Well, Luna settled easily and eagerly into her foster home. She also bonded quickly with her foster mom, whom she likes to follow around the house. Yes this is one affectionate, cuddly pooch, always happy to roll over for a belly rub. But Luna doesn't interrupt her person's work by constantly pestering to be petted. Just being near her foster makes Luna happy.
Some Huskies chew excessively, are very vocal, or are high energy escape artists. Not Luna. She offers her breed's good looks and most desirable pet characteristics, including loyalty and intelligence.
In fact, she is house trained, having figured out how to use the dog door almost immediately. She also obeys sit, come and no. Luna is still working on her crate training. Fortunately, when free roaming the house, she doesn't destroy anything. The worst that happens is that Luna gets into a trash can or surfs a counter top. Occasionally, she steals her foster mom's shoes and cuddles them. Maybe Luna is a secret fashionista?
Another favorite Luna hobby is meeting new people. She is great about not jumping on them. Her gentle, sweet nature makes her perfect for a family with kids.
Luna especially loves walks. She doesn't yank on her leash unless ... SQUIRREL! Or CAT! After all, she's only two years old. But if you walk Luna, be prepared. People will keep stopping you to exclaim, "Oh she's so beautiful!" Your other dog may get a complex.
And speaking of other canines, Luna adores them. Every day sees her romping happily with her foster sibling. Luna is not aggressive, but as the larger dog, she prefers being the Alpha in the relationship. Also as a former stray who lived weeks or months without a reliable food source, Luna should be fed in a separate room from other pets.
Yes, it is hard on a dog being abandoned. The experience left Luna with some separation anxiety. She would be happiest in a house where the owner works from home, or at least spends a lot of time there. If that's not possible, then another dog in the house also makes Luna feel better.
This is a sweet dog who wants, needs and deserves a forever home. If she could pull a loaded sled across frozen tundra to get to one, she would. But as it is, only you can help her.
