My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This brindle beauty with the mile-high ears is named Riley and she's as sweet as she is stunning! Riley's mom has health issues and can no longer care for her 10-year-old Pit mix. For the past 6 months she has been looking for a new home for Riley where she'll be well cared for and loved the way she deserves. Mom has reached out to family, friends, groomer, vet, co-workers and the kennel owner where she's boarded her. Everyone loves Riley, but no one is able to take her!

From Mom:  Riley is housebroken and absolutely LOVES children, car rides and walks.  Her nickname is Beans or Beanies. Her favorite place to be is right next to someone on the couch. When she sits up next to me I can ask her for hugs and she puts her head on my chest and gives me her paw.

I think she would like to play with other dogs but just hasn't had many chances to do so.  One of my previous dog walkers did bring 2 other dogs here and Riley got along very well with them and was even playing with one of them. Riley gets overly excited and pulls very hard when she gets close to other dogs while on a leash.  But I have boarded her at the kennel and there has never been an issue.  Riley has only seen cats but never been around them. She loves everyone she meets and is an excellent watchdog.

Though Riley is 10 she has the energy of a 5-6 year old.  At her last visit to the vet on Oct 7 (it was a new doctor) he was extremely surprised at her age since she was so energetic. He said that she is in excellent health and an ideal weight.  Riley is currently up-to-date on her shots and medications. She is spayed and also microchipped, and weighs 43 lbs.

Riley is not an 11th Hour Rescue dog but we are helping network her for a new home. If you are interested in finding out more about Riley please contact Sheryl directly at sheryltar@gmail.com - Riley currently lives in Hackettstown, NJ.

More about this rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
