My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks
the CPR Adoption team

Date into Rescue:10/27/2024
Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, can't properly care for him.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Duncan is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Duncan walks a little differently. He has seen our vet and had x-rays on his back and hips and no abnormalities were identified. Full copies of the x-rays will be provided to his adopters. Our vet noted that Duncan has back feet that are different and he adjusts his walking style to compensate. Please note that Duncan has history eating socks. He's had surgery in the past to have one removed. You must pay very close attention with this boy!
Weight: 71 lbs
Height: 26 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? Yes, Duncan is a big boy and requires a yard with a physical fence four (4) feet tall or taller.

What kind of home would be best for me? Duncan is a large standard poodle who’s a little bit different from the rest. He’s that friendly giant you can’t help but notice—kind of like the big kid in fifth grade who was taller than everyone else but maybe a bit behind in social skills. Duncan is sweet, but he does have some quirks that make him best suited for a specific kind of home.

Duncan tends to be overbearing and vocal when he’s around other dogs, especially in a group setting. He loves to bark and get into their space, which isn’t always appreciated by his canine companions. When he’s not around other dogs, though, Duncan is calm and affectionate. He thrives on one-on-one attention and will happily settle at your feet for pets and love.

Because of his behavior with other dogs, Duncan would do best in a home where he is the only pet. He’s not the type of dog to share his space with others, and he doesn’t do well in a multi-dog household. He needs a calm, quiet environment where he can relax and be the center of attention.

Duncan needs a spacious home—with a fenced yard where he can safely romp and play. An apartment or condo would be too small for a dog of his size and energy. Whether you're a single person or a couple, if you're home most of the day and able to give him the attention he craves, Duncan could be the perfect companion for you. Duncan spent the first 3 years of his life in a home with 4 children. He loves them. He can be mouthy.

What is my personality like? Say hello to Duncan, A big, lovable poodle with a personality all his own! Duncan will be a wonderful dog in the right situation. While he gets great care here at CPR, a safe place to rest his head at night, food, medical care, and attention from caregivers, his personality isn’t a good fit for the number of dogs he lives with. Duncan would thrive in a home where he is the only dog and where his adopters are around most of the time. He’s looking for a quiet, predictable environment where he can feel safe and secure.

Duncan can be very overbearing and vocal when he is in a crowd of dogs. Even when they correct him he will return and get in their space and bark at them. Remove him from the crowd and he will lay at your feet and relax while you pet him.

While Duncan is not yet fully leash-trained, he walks well on a leash and would benefit from some basic obedience training. He needs to learn commands like sit, stay, down, come, and the like. He’s very crate-trained, so no worries there! Training will be a fun way to bond with him while teaching him how to be the best companion possible.

If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate dog who loves attention and is happy to be your one-and-only furry friend, Duncan could be your perfect match. He’s big in stature but even bigger in heart—and he’s ready to bring all that love into your home!

How do I act when I first meet new people? Duncan likes people but he does tend to bark, a lot. It’s not an aggressive bark, he just barks. Once he’s settled and comfortable, he’ll warm up quickly and will shower you with affection.

Other tips and tidbits: Duncan was born 11/9/2020.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
