Hi, I`m Carmelo! I`m a handsome Cattle Dog who is looking for my forever home. I spent the first 4 years of my life in one home, so when my owners were no longer able to care for me and had to give me up, I had a really hard time adjusting. It took me a long time to trust anyone when I first arrived at the shelter, but now I have tons of friends! True to my breed, I am always looking to my person for direction- I`m a team player all the way! I am an expert at playing fetch, but I am also amazing at snuggling. I am a very affectionate guy who loves to sit next to or on my people! I would love to find a family who would take me on long walks so I can explore, play with me in the backyard, and cuddle up with me on the couch. I already know a lot of obedience but would love to work more on it with my new family so that we can bond together. Because I am a herding breed, I`d do better in a home with children aged 12 and up, since I can be a little bossy and try to herd smaller kids! I am a devoted companion who does not really want to share my people with other animals, so I`d do best in a home as the only pet. The West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) is a volunteer-based, no-kill animal rescue that was founded in 1972 in the western suburbs of Chicago. WSHS now finds homes for more than 500 dogs and cats each year!
WSHS is 100% funded by individual, corporate, and private foundations donations, and has over 450 active volunteers! WSHS is caring for about 200 animals at any given time.
