In the animal welfare world, we tend to focus so much on the dog or cat (or any other animal) that has been neglected, abandoned or suffered in any way, that sometimes we lose sight of the fact that they are not the only victim in the situation. Rocky`s story is just such an instance. As we share his story with you, we ask you to please keep in mind that mental illness, a minor`s involvement, and lack of education and resources has created a situation where both Rocky and his former family were victims.
Rocky is only about a year old, and for more than half of his life, he has lived outside on a chain that was affixed around his neck and locked with a padlock, whose key could no longer be located. His chain/collar could not be adjusted without that key so as he grew and grew, there was no (known) way to remove his chain/collar. Eventually, the chain grew into his neck.
Since the local authorities have stepped in to help, Rocky has had his chain surgically removed (and is healing nicely), has been fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm. We appreciate all the help that came through for him with our friends at the Troup County Marshals Office, Animal Health Clinic, and the fine people at LaGrange Veterinary Hospital. Rocky is ready to start a new chapter in his life. But he definitely skipped over a few of the usual puppy experiences, so now he needs YOU! He has SO much love to give. He is a very strong and very friendly +/- 50 lb. boy... what he lacks in discipline, he more than makes up for with his goofy personality and big heart. He is not housetrained. He pulls on his leash. He jumps around in the car. We`re not going to pretend that he is the perfect family pet... at least not yet! If you have the time, the compassion, and the energy, this boy will surely blossom into the perfect best friend for his fur ever person.
If you would like to meet Rocky or have any interest in adopting or fostering this silly baby as he learns and grows, please reach out to us today!
