Meet Stuart, a sweet but shy little guy with a unique look that`s all part of his breed charm!
~ Stuart is a small mixed breed with a nearly hairless body and thin coat, so he’ll need to wear a jacket in cooler weather to stay warm. ~ He also has mild acne and will be going home with a medicated shampoo to help manage it. Due to his specific skin care needs, we highly recommend researching hairless dog skin care or consulting with your vet to keep him comfortable and healthy. ~ Stuart came in with a group of other small dogs and, though he`s nervous, his gentle nature shines through once he feels safe. He currently lacks obedience skills, any leash skills, house training, and social experience, so he’ll thrive in a calm, experienced home that can give him time to adjust and grow. ~ Stuart`s adopter will need to sign him up for 3 mandatory in-person positive reinforcement training sessions before he leaves the shelter. ~ An ideal home would have older, dog-savvy children who are gentle and calm around him. Because Stuart can be a bit of a flight risk, an able-bodied adopter will be essential to keep him safe and secure.
If you`re ready to help Stuart blossom and grow into his best self, he’s eager to find a patient and loving forever home!
Regularly Exhibited Behaviours Noticed: High Energy Under-Socialized Nervous / Shy Touch/Sound Sensitivity
Explanation of Behaviours: This dog is active and high-energy, requiring lots of daily exercise and enrichment. He can be nervous or fearful with new people, in new situations, and in new environments. His new family will need to slowly and positively introduce him to these things to help him become more comfortable. He is under-socialized and will need his new family to help slowly and positively socialize him to the world around him. This dog has shown sound sensitivity and will need his new family to help him gradually become more comfortable with different sounds in a safe and positive way. He arrived here matted and sore and will need his new family to work on desensitization to regular grooming.
This dog would benefit from: A home that is confident and able-bodied to handle flighty behaviour An active home Lots of training and socialization A family with older children with previous dog experience Desensitizing Regular grooming

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
